Offsite course in Bridgnorth - Curriculum Futures for the Secondary School - strategies for change and challenge

Offsite training in Bridgnorth - Curriculum Futures for the Secondary School - strategies for change and challenge

Join us in beautiful Bridgnorth, Shropshire for our first foray back into face to face training in our own Covid secure training room - 9.30 - 15.30 with lunch

The curriculum is the blue-print for learning. This course looks at how to re-visit the curriculum intent, rationale and ambition to ensure that learners can build on their learning from the past few months. It then looks at how to ensure that all staff work together cohesively and collectively to plan how to implement new curriculum strategies to deepen understanding, build on prior learning and look to the future with confidence.

The OFSTED inspection handbook continues to look for:-

  • "how carefully leaders have thought about what end points the curriculum is building towards, what pupils will be able to know and do at those end points and how they have planned the curriculum accordingly".
  • "how leaders have sequenced the curriculum to enable pupils to build their knowledge and skills towards agreed end points".
  • "how leaders have ensured that the subject curriculum contains content which has been identified as most useful, and ensure that this content is taught in a logical progression, systematically and explicitly enough for all pupils to acquire the intended knowledge and skills".

This online training course will focus on:-

  • A review of how the current rationale for curriculum intent may need to change so that there are clearly defined strategies linked to current research and good practice that will ensure continued learning and progression
  • Building a consensus on what has defined and what will define successful pedagogy that will deliver highly interactive and independent learning to ensure pupils learn the curriculum and continue to deepen knowledge and understanding across all subjects
  • A close look at how senior, middle and subject leaders can review how to assess that successful and consistent implementation of the curriculum continues through the use of interactive lesson observation, feedback and opportunities for reflection with teachers, support staff and pupils
  • The need for highly interactive professional learning conversations to take place as part of continuous professional development. We look at how using coaching techniques will ensure the management of change and consistency of purpose is highly visible and effective going forward
  • Building a CPD framework to support staff in the management of change that is inevitable during the rest of this academic year and as a springboard to learning in the next

All our training is designed so that those who attend can take their learning back to school and share it with others. We provide all our resources for use on the day and then electronically afterwards so that they can be used for other training or as part of ongoing team building.

Who is it for?

Headteachers, Deputy Headteachers, Assistant Heads and subject leaders who are responsible for curriculum planning and the on-going quality of teaching and learning.  It will also be useful for the person in school who is responsible for continuing professional development (CPD) of all staff.  This event may also be useful for those involved in the transition process from Key Stage to Key Stage where a continuum of learning is essential to ensuring progression.

We also offer this event as an INSET or for groups of senior leaders to work together to build collaborative approaches to curriculum planning and delivery for the whole school.
